Strategic Land Potential
The 174 Agricultural Production Units (APU) of DCAS benefit from significant land potential, essential for the development of strategic agricultural crops.
The distribution of this land potential is as follows:
- Total Agricultural Area (TAA): 145,979 hectares
- Utilized Agricultural Area (UAA): 114,393 hectares
Among this utilized agricultural area, 15,322 hectares are equipped for irrigation, representing 13.4% of the UAA.
This land potential is a major asset for the development of structured agricultural programs aimed at improving national production and strengthening food security.
An Organization Based on Agricultural Specialization
The new DCAS organization is based on a strategic approach focused on the specialization of agricultural units and the optimization of their production capacities.
Former pilot farms have been redirected toward the development of priority agricultural sectors considered essential for the national agricultural economy and for reducing dependence on imports.
The main strategic sectors identified are:
- Development of pulses (particularly chickpeas and lentils)
- Oilseed crops aimed at strengthening national vegetable oil production
- Agricultural seed production, particularly cereal and potato seeds
- Perennial crops including tree crops and strategic plantations
An Organization Serving Food Security
Through this new organization, DCAS aims to strengthen its role in the development of strategic agricultural production by mobilizing:
- land resources
- technical expertise
- agricultural infrastructure inherited from former pilot farms
This structuring allows the company to actively contribute to:
- Increasing national agricultural production
- Modernizing production systems
- Enhancing the State’s agricultural potential
- Sustainably strengthening food security in Algeria
